SUMMARY:A Collaborative Scientific Document Authoring workflow using hosted
  Git
DESCRIPTION:I observed a white paper authoring collaboration workflow probl
em at my Forbes 50 employer wherein a tedious workflow around legacy tooli
 ng caused undue stress\, headaches\, rework\, and\, ultimately\, a cosmeti
cally poor-looking document with inconsistent content and styles. Knowing
that a good document requires both good content and presentation\, I propo
sed and led the creation of a simple workflow amenable to our team's softw
are engineers and data scientists: treating the white paper text as code w
 ith technologies including Markdown\, GitHub Enterprise\, Pandoc\, LaTeX\,
and a review process that gets the tooling out of the way in order to ena
ble content authors to focus less on logistics and more on writing and rev
iewing.\n\nThe result was that a team of seven engineers and data scientis
 ts created a 50-page document containing text\, diagrams\, equations\, gra
phics\, and more in just two weeks. The result greatly pleased our directo
rs and executives. They praised our team not only for the incredibly valua
ble content\, but also the professional appearance of the document. When t
hey learned about the peer review process we used to create it\, they want
ed more teams to use it.\n\nThis talk focuses on the problems of passing a
round files by email or shared drives\, the problems of collaborative edit
ing of online documentation\, and the problems we're still addressing in o
ur solution that we've now used to author several significant internal doc
 uments.\n\nColin Dean to present\n\nhttps://www.devopschat.co/meetings/a-c
