SUMMARY:Apache Kafka Data Durability
DESCRIPTION:Data durability refers to preventing data loss due to foreseen
or unforeseen failures. This is not a simple true or false question that c
an be answered through software design but involves architecting\, hardwar
e\, software\, and operational practices. Bruce Markey will discuss data d
urability using Apache Kafka which has features that are typical for distr
ibuted systems clusters and some features that may be unique.\n\nBruce Mar
key has been a Silicon Valley System Administrator dating back to 1990 and
has been a member of BayLISA since the first meeting in the early '90s. I
n recent years he has been an Operations Engineer for distributed systems
at Amazon's A9 and Twitter\, and an enterprise software Technical Support
Engineer for Couchbase and currently Confluent. Confluent was founded by t
he original developers of Apache\nKafka.\n\n---\n\nOur meetings are schedu
led for 7:30pm on the third Thursday of each month.\n\nBayLISA includes sy
stem and network administrators across a range of skill levels. BayLISA me
ets to discuss topics of interest to system administrators and managers. T
he meetings are free and open to the public.\n\nWe always welcome presenta
tion topics and volunteer speakers. Use the "Contact us" link on this page
to get in touch with BayLISA's directors.\n\nhttps://www.devopschat.co/me
