SUMMARY:Beyond DevOps: Growing Resilient and Scalable Organizations
DESCRIPTION:The theme for this event is broader than DevOps but definitely
aligned with its goals of more humane\, healthier working environments.\n\
nToday's organizations need to consider the social nature of technical sys
tems\, including ensuring psychological safety\, building resilience\, shi
fting from blaming to learning\, and more!\n\nWe are extremely happy to we
lcome Tom Geraghty\, transformation lead at Red Hat Open Innovation Labs\,
and Eduardo da Silva\, sociotechnical architect at bol.com (the largest o
nline retailer in Belgium and the Netherlands)\, with two excellent talks!
\n\nNOTE: START TIME IS 18H30 PORTUGAL TIME (GMT+1)\n\nYou need to registe
r for this event to see the Zoom link (under "Online event").\n\n=========
 \n\nTENTATIVE AGENDA\n\n18h30 - 19h15 : TALK #1\n19h15 - 19h30 : Q&A\n19h3
 0 - 20h15 : TALK #2\n20h15 - 20h30 : Q&A\n\n=========\n\nTALK #1: DevOps +
Resilience Engineering + Psychological Safety = Resilient Organizations\n
 \nSpeaker: Tom Geraghty\n\nResilience Engineering is a multi-disciplinary
field of applied research that has progressed over the past few decades\,
and is now gaining traction in the DevOps domain. This talk explores what
Resilience Engineering is\, what it isn't\, and how you can apply the prin
ciples of Resilience Engineering in your teams and organisations.\n\nTom i
s Transformation Lead at Red Hat Open Innovation Labs\, and has over 15 ye
ars experience leading and managing technology teams in a range of context
 s. He is passionate about the importance of psychological safety to high p
erformance\, and believes that not only does culture trump strategy\, but
 happiness precedes success.\n\n-----\n\nTALK #2: Scaling & Evolving Tech O
 rgs - Socio-Technical Traits\, Patterns and Use Cases\n\nSpeaker: Eduardo
da Silva\n\nProduct Thinking and DevOps are key to enable (Tech) Orgs incr
easing their ability to build better products at higher velocity. However\
, in order to continuously maximize the value exchange with the customer\,
we must consider all the socio-technical systems in the product developme
nt activities. All of these are continuously changing: customers\, markets
\, organizations and teams evolve and products technical architecture will
follow. Change is unavoidable\, which means organizations must strive for
operating models and systems that embrace it.\n\nIn this talk I will disc
uss several interesting traits to consider on the different (socio-technic
al) systems in order to maximize the org's ability to cope with such chang
es and evolution. For each trait I will share patterns of evolution and us
e cases\, e.g.: evolving Data Science & ML operating models as function of
org size and complexity\; evolving Platform Teams from operations to prod
uct mindset\; evolving technical leadership from pure informal networks to
the addition of structural enabling teams\, etc. These are patterns and u
se cases I observed over the last four years while working in different in
itiatives to "scale and evolve" bol.com.\n\nEduardo is a Tech Leader and S
ociotechnical Architect with a solid academic background (PhD in Computer
Science) and hands-on experience on (co-)designing and building software-b
ased products and organizations (strategies\, teams\, capabilities\, platf
orms\, etc.).\n\n=========\n\nIMPORTANT NOTICE: The talks will be recorded
and published in the DevOps Lisbon YouTube channel. By signing up for thi
s event you explicitly agree that your image might appear in the video rec
ordings. Nevertheless\, you can always get in touch with the organisation
 ([masked]) to have it removed.\n\nhttps://www.devopschat.co/meetings/beyon
