SUMMARY:DevOps Exchange - Digital/Challenger Banking edition
DESCRIPTION:We're excited to bring London another great DevOps event\, and
pleased to be back at Sainsbury's Digital in Holborn.\n\nTwo of the leadin
g powerhouses driving forward Digital Banking and challenging the Financia
l status quo will be joining us at DevOps Exchange this month. We're also
joining by one of the top 10 Up and Coming Fintechs for 2019\, Coconut.\n\
nSuhail from Monzo will give us an overview on the very current topic of S
ervice Mesh\, and Matt from Tandem Bank will be giving us an insight into
the evolution of Tandems Infrastructure Pipeline. Allistair at Coconut wil
l then give us Coconuts Technology Story\, 18 months on.\n\nFull agenda be
low\, and we look forward to seeing you next week.\n\nSuhail Patel @ Monzo
\n\nUsing Envoy as a Service Proxy\n\nThe service mesh space has evolved q
uite significantly over the last few years\, with entrants such as Envoy P
roxy\, Istio and Linkerd2 and more\, all with diverse feature-sets. The go
al is to make the network transparent to applications by abstracting it aw
ay in an out of process system. This reduces complexity of applications an
d abstracts important things such as load balancing\, service discovery an
d circuit breaking into service proxies.\n\nIn this talk\, we will go over
the use-cases of a service mesh and introduce Envoy Proxy to describe the
role it can play to help make your systems more resilient.\n\nSuhail is a
Backend Engineer at Monzo focused on working on the Core Platform. His ro
le involves building and maintaining Monzo’s infrastructure which more t
han 1\,000 microservices and leverages key infrastructure components like
Kubernetes\, Envoy Proxy\, Cassandra\, Etcd and more. He focuses specifica
lly in investigating deviant behaviour and ensuring services continue to w
ork reliably in the face of a constantly shifting environment in the cloud
 .\n\nMatt Canty @ Tandem Bank\n\nTandem’s Infrastructure Pipeline\n\nTan
dem Bank migrated from on-premises to AWS last year over a 10-month projec
 t. During this time we went from pets to cattle\, change request to pull r
equest and weekly to within-the-hour changes. We will share how our infras
tructure pipeline is the backbone to these improvements and how it has con
tinued to evolve.\n\nMatt joined Tandem over 4 years ago as one of the fir
st members of staff as a back-end developer and started pushing the compan
y to adopt DevOps practices early on. He eventually joined the Platform te
am before they began the infrastructure migration project.\n\nAllistair Cr
 ossley @ Coconut\n\nCoconut's Technology Story 1.5 Years On\, In a Nutshel
l\n\nCoconut's January 2018 MVP platform was built and managed by its CTO
over the course of 7 months. This talk will be an honest trip down memory
lane highlighting some of the hard (architecture\, frameworks\, ops\, secu
rity) and interesting (Terraform\, Ansible\, Lambda serverless) technology
and infrastructure choices that had to be made to get to market quickly b
ut also reliably and securely. He'll reflect on what has worked well\, wha
t could have been better and which choices he'd make if starting over\, be
fore ending with a quick look at some of the current infrastructure work a
nd plans for the future.\n\nAllistair joined Coconut in May 2017 as its CT
O and first employee. Tasked first with building the platform MVP launched
early 2018 he now manages an engineering team\, works closely with produc
t on roadmapping and process\, still works hands-on in the code and closel
y with ops\, ensures we are thinking about the right things from a technol
ogy standpoint whilst working with the co-founders on running the general
 business.\n\nHopefully see you there!\n\nAll the best\,\nThe DOXLON Team\n
 @thedoxhub\n\nSponsors\n\nLinuxRecruit (http://www.linuxrecruit.co.uk/)\nL
inuxRecruit introduce great people\, to equally great companies across Eur
ope. Come and say hello to learn more! We. Are. Hiring...\n\nSHAPE (www.we
shape.io/)\nShape are a Cloud\, DevOps and Agile consultancy with a differ
ence. Deploying squads\, delivering outcomes\, creating lasting value.\n\n
