SUMMARY:DevOps Exchange - Lockdown Special
DESCRIPTION:Here at the DevOps Exchange\, we understand just how much thing
s have changed over the last few weeks\, and how hard we are all working t
o adjust to the new normal.\n\nAnd we miss you!\n\nTo help keep you all en
gaged in the global DevOps Community and to try and lift some spirits\, we
wanted to arrange a DevOps Exchange event with a slight twist\, the Lockd
own Special.\n\nThis is why we have gathered 4 speakers to take part in a
virtual event\, broadcast live to all of our communities around the world.
 \n\nJoin us\, via Video Link\, on the 14th April at 5:30pm.\n\nYou'll hear
two talks from our very own DevOps Exchange Community Leaders from Edinbu
rgh and Barcelona\, along with a talk on Serverless Containers with knativ
e from Google and fintech start up Ziglu on the Bazel build system.\n\nWe'
ll have 4 x 20 minute talks starting at 5:30pm sharp. Questions will be ru
n through the Sli.do platform.\n\nWe can't provide beer and pizza to every
one\, however\, we are running a competition to get a pizza delivered for
the event to 10 attendees. RSVP to be in with a chance of winning!\n\n***\
 nMete Atamel @ Google\nwww.linkedin.com/in/meteatamel/\n\nServerless Conta
iners with Knative and Cloud Run\n\nWhen you build an app\, you typically
need to choose agility with serverless or flexibility with containers\, bu
t not both. But why does it have to be that way? Wouldn’t it be nice to
have the best of both worlds?\n\nIn this talk\, we’ll explore the open s
ource project Knative and its managed version Cloud Run. Through a series
of demos\, we’ll see how these projects enable you to deploy and manage
containers in a serverless way on wherever you want\, on-prem or in the cl
 oud.\n\nAs a long-time Java and C# developer\, Mete likes to compare the t
wo ecosystems. Prior to Google\, he worked at Microsoft\, Skype\, Adobe\,
EMC\, and Nokia building apps and services on various web\, mobile and clo
ud platforms.\n\nMarc Cluet - DOXELONA & Technical Practice Lead\, Nationw
ide\nwww.linkedin.com/in/marccluet\n\nDevOps in a highly regulated environ
ment - Aiming high like a Unicorn in skates\n\nFintech is one of the most
exciting sectors\, advancing rapidly and creating new ways to deal with go
vernance and compliance required in the Financial Industry. Old financial
institutions with legacy and regulatory process already in place are also
transforming to be competitive in this market. I'll tell you some of the s
olutions that we have envisioned at Nationwide to leap forward and be more
agile and useful for our members.\n\nPhil Foxton - DOXBURGH & DevOps Prin
cipal @ Lloyds Bank www.linkedin.com/in/phil-foxton-b136822/\n\nHow *NOT*
to build a great DevOps Team”\n\nThere are many resources out in the wil
d that tell you\, or guide you through how to build a great DevOps team. T
his talk aims to cover the other side\, what you shouldn’t do\, but a lo
t of people and companies do...do.\n\nMatt Turner - ZIGLU\, Head of Platfo
 rm\nwww.linkedin.com/in/mt165/\n\nBazel is a build system. Bored yet?\n\nB
azel is a build system where you declare your builds in terms of binaries
and tests\; the library knows all the compiler flags.\nIt produces byte-fo
r-byte identical outputs in a hermetic sandbox\, and pins the version of e
verything including the compiler.\nIt can use remote build farms and cache
s\, and decide that 100k source files *don’t* need to be rebuilt in 200m
 s. This isn’t your grandad’s Maven\n\nBazel is great for DevOps engine
ers.\nWe SREs should be software engineers\, and we should be good ones. B
azel is a useful and interesting software engineering tool that everyone s
hould be at least familiar with.\n\nWe'll run over its design and features
\, then build a simple Go project up from scratch.\n\nRSVP today to regist
er for our online DevOps Exchange Event.\n\n"See" you all soon\,\nDevOps E
xchange Team\n@thedoxhub\n\nDevOps Exchange is sponsored by LinuxRecruit -
Continuous Delivery of talented people to innovative businesses.\n\nIf yo
u are considering a new opportunity\, or would like to speak to a consulta
nt - get in touch. www.linuxrecruit.co.uk\n\nhttps://www.devopschat.co/mee
