SUMMARY:DevOps Vancouver Meetup: October 2020
DESCRIPTION:Welcome back to the DevOps Vancouver Meetup! We hope you enjoye
d the summer break and are ready to kick-off the fall with a fantastic lin
e-up of speakers. For more interactive Q&A sessions with our presenters\,
we'll be using Zoom at all of our future Meetups. Also\, Splunk will be gi
ving away two Apple Airpod Pro’s to two Meetup members in attendance! He
 re’s the evening’s line-up:\n\nChristine Ozeroff: How a relentless Lea
rning Culture is the cornerstone for DevOps\n\nChristine will be presentin
g anecdotes about how learning has been the most important cornerstone in
the development of human civilization and how the current pandemic situati
on makes this even more evident.\n\nChristine is an experienced servant le
ader who has been proactively serving the public sector for the past 20 ye
ars\, passionately building a learning culture across various public and p
rivate organizations. Christine has successfully hosted over a thousand le
arning events and worked with diverse vendors across the globe. Throughout
her journey\, Christine has helped corporate and public sector leaders to
stay ahead of the game in an ever changing\, fast paced technology enviro
nment by keeping the learning and innovation curve steep. Currently\, Chri
stine is at WorkSafeBC as the Innovation and Technology Learning Manager a
nd is relentlessly working towards establishing a learning culture across
various divisions.\n\nChris Riley: Data-Driven DevOps – powered by Splun
k + SignalFx\n\nIn the early days of DevOps\, gated communication between
teams was slowing application deployments down. Now tech-enabled enterpris
es have figured out how to go fast\, but not how to keep up with the chall
enges that velocity creates\, such as supporting and measuring application
success.\n\nThe good news: data produced by software delivery chains (SDL
 C) can bridge the gap. Leveraging data creates visibility across the entir
e SDLC\, which gives teams the confidence to monitor and support modern ap
ps at high velocity.\n\nIn his presentation\, Chris will discuss:\n\n- The
challenges with the modern SDLC\;\n- The power of data in DevOps\; and\n-
How the Splunk + SignalFx portfolio supports Data-Driven DevOps.\n\nChris
will demo:\n\n- How SignalFx creates service maps of microservice archite
ctures\;\n- Microservice root-cause analysis using tracing and metrics\;\n
 - Troubleshooting and drill-downs into K8s environments using the Kubernet
es Navigator\; and\n- Alerting and incident management through VictorOps d
 esigned for DevOps teams.\n\nChris Riley (@hoardinginfo): As a bad-coder-t
urned-technology-advocate\, Chris understands the challenges and needs of
modern engineers and how technology fits into the broader business goals o
f companies in a demanding high-tech world. Chris speaks and engages with
end-users regularly in the areas of DevOps\, SecOps\, and App Dev. He work
s for Splunk as a Tech Advocate and is a regular contributor to industry b
logs such as ContainerJournal.com\, DevOps.com and Sweetcode.io. He is als
o the host of the podcast\, Developers Eating the World.\n\nPlease RSVP qu
ickly and update your attendance if you can't make it\, so others who get
 waitlisted can attend.\n\nhttps://www.devopschat.co/meetings/devops-vancou
