SUMMARY:Engineering Reliable Mobile Applications
DESCRIPTION:For our rentrée\, we have the pleasure of welcoming Pranjal De
o\, Engineering Program Manager at Google\, who gave a brilliant talk on b
lameless postmortems last year at the DevOpsDays Portugal conference.\n\nT
his time she will share her lessons learned on mobile engineering\, reliab
ility\, and the future of SRE for mobile! Don't miss it!\n\nNOTE: START TI
ME IS 19H PORTUGAL TIME (GMT+1)\n\nYou need to register for this event to
see the Zoom link (under "Online event").\n\nThe event starts at 19:00 sha
rp\, please try to connect on time!\n\n=========\n\nTALK: Engineering Reli
 able Mobile Applications\nSpeaker: Pranjal Deo\n\nIn today’s day & age\,
many services are being accessed by users through a client application on
mobile. What’s the point of five 9s of server availability\, if the pro
ductionized app is unreliable for users? This talk explains the importance
\, challenges and best practices of client-side reliability.\n\nWhy Mobile
and SRE (Site Reliability Engineering)?\n\n- Mobile is nonuniform and unc
ontrollable\n- SRE responsibilities differ in critical ways from infrastru
cture or server-side application reliability engineering\n- Focus on where
your end users are (i.e. today many users access services through mobile
applications)\n- Specific challenges of mobile: Monitoring\, Release manag
 ement\, Incident management\n\nFuture of SRE for Mobile:\n\n- Visibility i
nto mobile application performance\n- Find and react to issues before the
user does\n- Measure SLIs throughout the product stack (from client to ser
vice)\n\nPranjal Deo is an Engineering Program Manager at Google. Graduate
d as an Electrical engineer\, started as a test automation engineer\, then
software engineer and took on DevOps (including disaster recovery) respon
sibilities at her previous company\, where she graduated into the role of
a Lead App Performance analyst.\n\n=========\n\nRemember our guidelines of
engagement in the video call\, to make sure things run as smoothly as pos
sible:\n\n1. When you join\, you will be muted to avoid noise\n\n2. We ask
you to rename yourself to include your name and city/location\n\n3. Turn
on your webcam if you don’t mind\, so we can recognize each other’s fa
ces and make this more in-person like\, we're friendly :)\n\n4. After each
  presentation\, there will be a Q&A round\n\n5. If you have a question\,
“Raise hand” to let us know OR write it in the chat\n\n5.1. If you “
raise hand”\, we will call your name and unmute you so you can ask the q
uestion\n\n5.2. If you write the question in the chat\, we will read it ou
t loud\n\n6. Feel free to use the chat for discussions with other particip
