SUMMARY:London DevOps #52 (Online)
DESCRIPTION:London DevOps goes online again this month with a schedule of t
wo talks taking place over Zoom\, followed by a social session to which ev
eryone can contribute.\n\nThe link to attend the event is: https://adaptav
ist.zoom.us/j/95772668157\n\nPlease see speakers and agenda below\;\n\n6:0
 0pm - Introductions\n\n6:15pm - John Willis (RedHat) - Designing Platforms
with the Three Economies Frame\n\nLooking at new ways to understand trans
formation through the lens of a platform. We will look at design patterns
 and the 4V's (Velocity\, Variability\, Variety\, and Visability).\n\nJohn
Willis is Senior Director of the Global Transformation Office at Red Hat P
rior to Red Hat\, he was the Director of Ecosystem Development for Docker\
, which he joined after the company he co-founded (SocketPlane\, which foc
used on SDN for containers) was acquired by Docker in February 2015. Previ
ous to founding SocketPlane in Fall 2014\, John was the Chief DevOps Evang
elist at Dell\, which he joined following the Enstratius acquisition in Ma
y 2013. He has also held past executive roles at Chef and Canonical. John
was one of the earliest cloud evangelists and is considered one of the fou
nders of the Devops movement. John is the author of 7 IBM Redbooks. He is
also the co-author of the “Devops Handbook” and “Beyond the Phoenix
Project” along with author Gene Kim.\n\n7:00pm - Andy Burgin (Sky Bettin
g and Gaming) - Beyond Dashboards: Visualising Complex Systems\n\nAlthough
we may have detailed knowledge of individual components of our systems\,
can dashboards alone give us the ability to understand how those component
s and the many others relate\, interact and operate as a complex system?\n
\nThis session will demonstrate ways to “see” the workloads running on
Kubernetes clusters. Helping to better understand a system through visual
isation\, anomaly identification and exploratory analysis. Using tools suc
h as graph databases and visualisation tools\, you’ll see how they can h
elp explore and understand cluster workloads. See how these tools have ide
ntified issues and how they can help engage with users of the systems to s
hare best practices and ultimately improve cluster performance.\n\nAndy is
a Lead Platform Engineer at Sky Betting and Gaming. He considers himself
a Kubernetes and Hadoop fettler\, spending a far too much of his spare tim
e making Raspberry Pis do things they shouldn’t. He was a small part of
the organising team for DevOpsDays London 2019 and has been running the De
vops meetup in Leeds for 6 years hosting over 50 events. He’s attended a
nd spoke at a bunch of DevOps conferences and in his own words is ‘an al
 l-round DevOps nuisance’.\n\n7:40pm - Social Session\n\nWe'll run a sepa
rate Zoom meeting to socialise afterwards: https://adaptavist.zoom.us/j/95
