SUMMARY:London DevOps #64
DESCRIPTION:We're running another in-person event at R3's offices in Barbic
an\, London\, our first 'traditional' event hosted at a great company's of
fices since before the pandemic.\n\nAs we have developed a significant onl
ine audience whilst we have been running virtual events\, we will be aimin
 g to live-stream this event too.\n\nWe don't yet have a full agenda - but
please see speakers and agenda so far below:\n\n6:30pm - Arrival\n\n7:00pm
  - Introductions\n\n7:15pm - Ejber Özkan - Streaming Euro 2020 live - Ena
bling scalability and improving fault isolation\n\nThe BBC’s audience ha
s been moving from traditional broadcast to online consumption\, in which
the Euro 2020 Final set a new record for\nBBC iPlayer. This meant our engi
neers wanted to avoid a major outage\, as happened two years before during
the 2018 World Cup Quarter Final\,\nwhich triggered a significant redesig
n of our workflows. Ejber will talk about scaling live streaming architect
ure to reliably deliver media\, and re-architecting systems by switching f
rom a pull to a push model to avoid systems being overwhelmed.\n\nEjber Ö
zkan is Software Engineering Manager\, Media Services – Digital Distribu
tion at the BBC\n\n7.50pm - Andrew Hardie - Supply Chain Integrity\n\nThe
SolarWinds hack clearly demonstrated the damaging impact supply chain comp
romise can generate and served dramatically to raise the profile and impor
tance of supply chain integrity. In this presentation Andrew will examine
the threat points in the software creation pipeline processes\, from code
commit through to application deployment\, highlighting the valuable contr
ibutions of Open Source initiatives and tools.\n\nAndrew Hardie is Infrast
ructure Services Lead at R3.\n\n8:30pm - Socials\n\nWe'll head over to the
pub!\n\nIf you'd like to participate in a future meetup\, please fill in
this form and we'll get back to you! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1FYGH
