 lls in a DevOps world – T\, E\, V\, and Ven Shaped engineers**\n\nSynops
is: Jon will be running through the different skill development trees need
ed to succeed in the world of Cloud\, DevOps\, and SRE. He’ll be documen
ting out\, how to bring Range into your career\, what to focus on next to

am. He will give clear actionable advice both for people starting or comin
g into the world of technology\, as well as for experienced people looking
to take their (or their team’s) careers to the next level. He’ll expl

es\, owning a number of key area of the AWS business for the region includ
 ing EC2\, Containers\, Serverless\, Networking\, HPC\, Outpost\, Graviton
and Visual Computing. Prior to joining AWS\, he was a Managing Director at
Accenture leading our DevOps and Full-Stack Engineering businesses for UK
/IR. Before into consulting he was in a number of technical roles across F
inancial Services (Head of Infra at Standard Chartered\, Architecture/Engi
neering at Goldman Sachs\, Credit Suisse\, Deutsche Bank\, and The London

 psrob/) ([DevOps Rob](https://twitter.com/devops_rob?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogl
 e%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor)) @ HashiCorp**\n\n**Using Cloud Identit
ies for application authentication to HashiCorp Vault**\n\nCentralising yo
ur secrets management platform and Identity Provider is an essential part
of adopting a Zero Trust mindset\, but one of the biggest challenges facin
g DevSecOps Engineers and Developers in this new paradigm is how systems a
nd applications can get that initial secret that grants access to the secr
ets management platform. This is commonly referred to as \\`Secret Zero\\`
and can’t be stored in plaintext in the application code due to the hig
h risk of exposure.\n\nIn this talk\, I’m going to show you a simple wor
kflow that removes Secret Zero from application code and uses Cloud native
identities to authenticate to HashiCorp Vault. I will demonstrate how to
attach Cloud identity to a workload and configure HashiCorp Vault’s auth
methods to use this identity for Authentication. By the end of this demo\
, you will understand how to configure the cloud components\, Vault and ho
w to refactor a simple Go application to facilitate this workflow.\n\n**[H
 enrique Rodrigues](https://www.linkedin.com/in/henriquerodrigues/) @ LYTT*
*\n\n**Why Debian is not secure**\n\nSynopsis: GNU/Linux distributions in
general have a reputation of being secure and taking care of their users\,
specially when package management is concerned. Debian is a shining beaco
n in this environment\, although its security efforts regarding CVEs can b
e very inconsistent. Where does it fall short? Do other distributions fare
better? Does yours? Let's tie everything up with CI pipelines and Docker
containers\, for good measure.\n\nBio:\nHenrique Rodrigues is leading the
DevOps team at LYTT where\, among other things\, he has a key that turns a
laser on. 20 years ago his family held an intervention because he was "us
ing Linux too much". It failed\, but his main system was Gentoo on PowerPC
\, so they might have had a valid point.\n\n**Sponsors**\nThe DevOps Excha
 nge is sponsored by **[LinuxRecruit](https://www.linuxrecruit.co.uk/)**\,
continuously delivering great people to great companies in the DevOps\, Cl
 oud and SRE space.\n\nhttps://www.devopschat.co/meetings/return-of-the-ons
