SUMMARY:We Accidentally Created a Serverless Application
DESCRIPTION:This month\, we've got our very own JJ Asghar discussing how\,
as part of work\, they ended up with a serverless application by accident.
 \n\n# We Accidentally Created a Serverless Application\n\n## Abstract\nIn
this talk\, we will describe our situation\, how we ended up with a server
less application by accident. We talk about where we started\, our use cas
e and how it turns out leveraging FaaS and the Code-Engine Serverless plat
form we created a system that is surprisingly robust and super cheap to ru
n.\n\n## Talk Description\nAs a developer advocate\, one of the largest ch
allenges we have is teach people how to use our products. To do this is th
at we have to create workshops and disposable environments so our students
can get their hands dirty. As IBM employees we use the IBM cloud\, but it
is designed for long-term production usage\, not the ephemeral infrastruc
tures that a workshop would require. We have previously created some syste
ms around it to provide different ways of building up these systems\, but
in this latest iteration\, we discovered we created a full serverless stac
k (by accident).\n\n## Bio\n\nJJ works as a Developer Advocate representin
g the IBM Cloud all over the world. He mainly focuses on the IBM Kubernete
s Service and OpenShift trying to make companies and users have a successf
ul onboarding to the Cloud Native ecosystem. He’s also been known in the
DevOps tooling ecosystem and generalized Linux communities. If he isn’t
building automation to make his work streamlined he’s building the grou
ndwork to do just that.\n\nHe lives and grew up in Austin\, Texas. A fathe
r and husband\, trying to learn to balance his natural nerdiness with fami
ly life. He enjoys a good strong dark ale\, hoppy IPA\, some team building
Artemis\, and epic Gloomhaven campaigning.\n\nHe has recently dove headfi
rst into Fedora since IBM buying Redhat\, but still secretly wants FreeBSD
everywhere. He’s always trying to become a better web technology develo
per\, though normally just uses bash to get the job done.\n\nhttps://www.d
